From Pastor Earl ...
If there was a theme for my life that glorifies God, it would be Gods' amazing grace. In my late teens, I stumbled when a pastor was forced to leave his pulpit and by the events surrounding his leaving.
From the age of 18 to the age of 38, I ran from God using all of the usual complaints regarding God's people and His church. Then, through a series of life-changing events, I found myself searching for Him once again. I found Him speaking through a long-haired pastor beginning a church in Wichita, Kansas, called Calvary Chapel that was meeting in a junior high school auditorium. Over the next few months, God healed my marriage and my heart that had been broken 20 years before.
I entered the ministry in about 1983 as an associate pastor of Calvary Chapel Wichita and was ordained after about one year. Believing that only God can ordain, while we can recognize such ordination, I received recognition of my ordination both from the fellowship in Wichita as well as at Calvary Chapel Cool Waters in Edmond, Oklahoma.
The "Cool Waters" in our church name embraces two ideas:
- The first is the call upon us all to proclaim Christ. Mark 9:41 says,
"For whoever gives you a cup of water in My name, because you belong to Christ, assuredly say to you, he will by no means lose his reward."
- The second speaks to what that water does in all of our lives. Ephesians 5:26-27 reads,
"...that he might sanctify and cleanse her (that is, His bride the church) with the washing of water by the word"
"that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy without blemish."
My sincere hope is that you find cleansing and refreshing in the presence of the Lord through the ministry of the Holy Spirit, through His people and the teaching of the Word.
